Christmas Eve Service

Our Christmas Eve Service will be (guess!) Friday night at 7:00. As you know, for the homily I take on a biblical character. So far I've been Gabriel, Isaiah, Joseph, and Elizabeth. Who will I be next? Here's a hint that should help you figure it out during the service before I speak. The character appears in every Christmas carol we will sing.

Blog Continue?

Some people have asked if I will continue my blog. As you already know, I've grown slack in keeping it up lately. I most likely will resurrect a blogsite under a new name and address. But I promise to keep you posted when that takes place.

Moving

Ginger and I leave on the 31st and I will begin my new position of Executive Minister at Tenth Presbyterian Church on the 4th. We do not have a permanent place to stay. For now our mailing address will be c/o Tenth Presbyterian Church, 1701 Delancey Place, Philadelphia, PA 19103. I can be reached through the church phone number 215.735.7688.

A Christmas Letter from the Jordans

Dear friends and family,

My family felt it necessary to take a little extra time and acknowledge some things that we have not this year. January 3rd will be a year ago that our little Anni passed away and is now dancing in the clouds in a perfect world with the Lord. It is still so very hard to even discuss her passing. We do not want anyone to feel sorry for us; we were truly blessed to have her while she was here. Just think, we actually had what we believed to have been an angel here on earth with us for that time. Trust me when I say this and know none of our family has ever had an ounce of anger or animosity towards God for her loss. You see, it is about faith and we know that we will see her again one day and she will be whole. We can't wait for that moment, just to see her dance like her big sister, Emili. Our family does want to express our sincere gratitude for all the support, thoughts, prayers, flowers, cards, and all other acts of kindness and love that were expressed to our family at her celebration of life. We were never able to actually respond with thank you notes or words to everyone. It is stilil quite painful to go back to that time. We find it much more comforting to reminisce about the memories of her days when she was here with us. We want to thank all of those too who failed to not forget us this past year after Anni's passing. So many of you stayed right there by our sides through visits, phone calls, cards and other means of communications. This meant so much to us and has carried us through this year much easier.

May each and every one of you have a blessed Christmas and wonderful New Year. And, remember to not forget the true meaning of Christmas.

God Bless you all,
Tony, Vicki and Emili Jordan

Help for Sexual Sin

Are you struggling with sexual sin? Living a secret life? The best help is to first confess your problem to a brother (if male) or sister (if female). Turn to your pastor/elder. Far from being condemned, you will find understanding and help.

There are other resources to turn to as well. Phil Courson, pastor of Abundant Grace Fellowship, sent the following information to me:

"First resource would be Joshua Harris' new book Not Even a Hint, and it has been written for both men and women. There is also a study guide for girls and guys to work through.

Second resource would be Pure Freedom: Setting Captives Free, from Focus Publishing. Here is the site: http://www.focuspublishing.com/html/bookstore3.html You can also visit their site at www.settingcaptivesfree.com for more information. This material would have a more biblical approach than the next resource.

Third resource is Every man’s Battle by Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker. They have a book and workbook for you.

Also a nice little book concerning this is The Purity Principle by Randy Alcorn. Also read Doug Wilson’s section on this in his book called Fidelity."

Another website I know of is www.harvestusa.org It has helpful articles. HarvestUSA is endorsed by the PCA and is a ministry to persons struggling with sexual issues.

Pastoral Search Committee

Here are the nominees to the Pastoral Search committee. Voting will take place this coming Sunday (the 12th) after the morning service. Only communicant members present at the meeting can vote. You may vote for up to four names on this list. The top four names voted in the first ballot will be elected. There will be only one round of voting unless a runoff is needed due to a tie.

The list in alphabetical order: Jim Brady, Coralyn Carey, David Darus, Adam Geary, Jancy Houck, Barbara Lawrence, Don Nilsson, Donna Schroeder, Nick Schroeder, Barbara Stakely, Dan Sutton, Lori Taylor, Christian Weiss.

The committee will have eight members. The remaining four already elected by their respective boards are: Elders Bill Montgomery and Jeff Ward; Deacons Ross Prange and Jim Stakely.

Christmas Party

The church Christmas party is this Friday night, 6:30-8:30. The theme is an old fashion Christmas. Activities will include stringing popcorn, singing carols, baking cookies, and telling stories. Be sure to invite family and friends.
